Camp Life

Camp LifeBy , free

Can a camp change your life? Drew liked his fine just the way it was. At almost 15, he would probably be the oldest kid there, and he didn’t plan on wasting any part of summer break paddling a canoe or making lanyards. He would chill and sleep and do whatever he liked. Now, that’s a plan! Jake was in trouble. One of his teachers said he was trouble. His mom was forcing him to go, his dad was long gone, and there was no one he could turn to…or so he thought. Dara was chasing her life’s dream…or was it someone else’s dream? Who wouldn’t want to be in the Olympics, right? But her dad pushed and pushed, and it would be a relief to get away from home for just a little while. There were other kids, different people, different lives, and camp would bring them together. A challenge, an act of kindness, a simple question, or something else entirely would set change in motion. And then there would be choices to make.

For the King

For the KingBy , free

Shiloh was supposed to die. The assassins meant to kill the entire royal family that cold winter morning. They tried to kill her, of course. The Fallen couldn't allow the king and queen's only daughter to survive. But Shiloh's heart kept beating. Left to die in the dirt, she was spirited away to safety by a woman and her grandson, Aden.

Ten years later, Shiloh is no longer the girl she once was. Trained for combat and in the powerful position of having nothing left to lose, she is determined to join the Redemption army formed to oppose Orjak and his followers—a regime he proudly calls the Fallen. How else will Shiloh be granted access to the men who murdered her parents? She intends to return the favor.

When Shiloh hears that Redemption recruiters are passing through a nearby village, she sets out with Aden and their trainer to enlist. But they soon find that their journey won’t be so simple. As the three of them fight to survive the treacherous path to Headquarters, Shiloh begins to see that their pasts refuse to be forgotten. That their histories are intertwined in a way she never expected. That the time has come to confront her feelings for Aden.

But reaching their destination is only half the battle. When situations suddenly threaten to expose her true identity as the lost princess, Shiloh learns that her role in the Redemption will require a strength she’s not sure she possesses. And as war finally descends upon the realm, Shiloh may be forced to put aside her thirst for revenge to ensure the survival of her parent’s kingdom, and perhaps even save the boy who first saved her.

Free eBooks for Young Adults - Christmas theme

This site lists FREE eBooks for Young Adults. Listings are updated every Monday. Regularly, all books for, and about, and by Young Adults are welcome.

However, for this special Christmas listing, I'm reaching outside the normal YA material. I’ve tried to find some Christmas or holiday reads for this week’s post, but it’s not easy to find good, free fiction with a holiday theme. Alas, I selected one 'first in a series' and one short fiction, and I feature them this week. To those who celebrate Christmas, I hope it is happy. To everyone else, I wish a very good holiday season, and all the best for the New Year.

All I Want for Christmas is You

Sometimes fate needs a little hand…

Santa Claus is going to have a rough season... Lauren Alexander is raising her daughter alone. Abandoned by her family for her decision to keep her daughter Kristen, she has done a pretty good job for the last six years. Or she thought she had. That's why she is crushed when little Kristen gives up her wish for a toy or goodie and instead asks Santa for a present for her mother. She wants Santa to bring a Daddy. Delivering Daddies isn't Santa's bag.

But this Santa has a plan...

Kyle Preston knows what it is like to be abandoned too. Luckily he found the support of loving adoptive parents and has turned himself into one of the most successful Real Estate developers in town.

Building a house is easy. Building someone's trust is a whole other story. But with a little helping hand, a little Christmas magic can make all the difference in the world.

Christmas Truce

Christmas Truce, by Sean McLachlan, free

Christmas 1914:
In the cold, muddy trenches of the Western Front, there is a strange silence. As the men of a crack English trench raiding team enjoy their first day of peace in months, they begin to call out holiday greetings to their enemies on the German line. Soon men are fraternizing in No Man’s Land.

But when the English recognize some enemy trench raiders who only a few days before had launched a deadly attack on their position, can they keep the peace through the Christmas Truce?
